Ignatian Spirituality"Christian spirituality can be defined as life in accord with the Spirit of God ... God is an 'active God,' ever at work in people's lives, inviting, directing, guiding, disposing them for how they might serve him." Ignatian Spirituality Charles J Jackson, SJ Here are some ways for you to develop your spirituality. Series on Catholics and Voting: How Best to Use Your Voice and Vote in the Upcoming Election 2nd Presentation Tues April 22 at 7pm As Americans, there are many voices and points of view available to us; as Catholics we are also responsible for informing our consciences by Church doctrine in order to make moral choices in the upcoming elections that will impact each of us and the common good. Our First Presentation in the series covered the following topic: Politics, Friendship, and Conversation. It's purpose was to introduce the series and provide a foundation for our continuing conversations. In summary, we never get done saying who we are and what's most important in our lives. There is a continuing process of finding out about these things through the conversation of friends. We are always in process, finding our way. Conversation helps us to be ourselves, even our best selves. We are "built for" friendship; to build community is to be truly political. And the place where we build a politics of friendship (a community) is the Church. We can't use our voice or our vote to best advantage without Church or politics. Politics gives us the occasion to "feel" for other human beings. Through voice and vote we are invested in others (the "common good"). The Second Presentation will help us understand faith as we exercise our rights as responsible citizens. We will present the American Bishops' thoughts on forming conscience and the corresponding moral responsibility of each Catholic to hear, receive, and act upon the Church's teaching. The talk will help us get engaged by shaping our moral convictions, focused on the dignity of every human being, the pursuit of the common good, and the protection of the weak and the vulnerable. Read what the US Conference of Catholic Bishops has to say about voting. And join us for this Second Presentation on Tuesday April 22nd at 7:00 PM.
