Suscipe
St Ignatius Loyola

Take Lord!
Receive all my liberty,
my memory,
my understanding,
my entire will,
all that I have
and call my own.

To you, Lord, I return it.
Do with it as You will.
Give me only Your love
and Your grace.

That is enough for me.

It is not enough for us to say, 'I love God, but I do not love my neighbor.'
Mother Teresa

We, the Social Justice Committee, set out on a journey of faith
and commit ourselves to the promotion of peace through justice.

Prayerfully, we strive to build a community of solidarity in seeking a more just social order.

Do you find that your life is rapidly moving from one year to the next and you have little time to reflect on what it means to live the Gospel as Jesus asks us to do? "Love your neighbor as yourself" is the second great commandment; but in our busy lives, who is our neighbor? What does our faith say we should do for our neighbor? Come and explore these thoughts with the Social Justice Committee.

SOCIAL JUSTICE HAPPENINGS

Our ministry in conjunction with Catholic Charities invites you and your members to attend a Parish Social Ministry training day at St. Mary's in Garner on 9/25 from 9:30-3:00PM. This is not just for social justice ministries as we will explore ways "we can affect positive change in our parishes" as a whole. Note also that there will be programs in Spanish.

FOR I WAS HOMELESS AND YOU GAVE ME SHELTER

1. “Foxes have dens, birds have nests but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head”. Have you ever wondered how can you help those less fortunate to achieve the dream of home ownership as a just one person? The Social Justice Ministry has the answer! Come join parishioners from other area Catholic Churches in the 2010 Catholic Church Coalition which will be building a house in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity. This will be the first home built solely by Catholic churches in our area and won’t it be great to have our presence known!! This house will be built in Garner and no particular talent is needed –just a desire to help. Get information now- Beverly Simmons 881-9019

2. The Social Justice Ministry Faith Support Circle for the Homeless needs your help. The Support Circle is asking for parishioner assistance in the form of time and talent to help a homeless family make the transition from living in a shelter to self-sufficiency in their own home. This will be a commitment of whatever time and talent you can offer.

As announced previously at Masses The Faith Support Circle for the Homeless is in the process of meeting the family with which we will work. When this process is complete, the family and circle will  assess the needs and supplies currently at hand and assemble a list of items needed to help the family in their new home. Watch this space for an upcoming request for treasures you may be considering donating elsewhere. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
Be the visible Hands and Feet of Christ on Earth for a deserving family.

Our health fair proved to be a success! Vendors distributed information and performed "hands on" evaluations.
