Deacon John Wetsch grew up in Killdeer, North Dakota, a small town located near the Badlands in the Southwestern part of the State. He and his family moved to Raleigh in 1991 joining St. Raphael that same year. His wife Laura is an attorney and they have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. He was ordained to the diaconate for the Diocese of Raleigh in 2014. Deacon John’s career has been in Information Technology where he has worked in senior roles in private industry and government working on large scale information systems. He also has been involved with teaching and governance in higher education throughout his career. He currently serves as an Instructor and Program Director for Cloud Computing with Wake Technical Community College and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses for other institutions.
Deacon John’s education background includes undergraduate degrees in physics and philosophy, graduate degrees in astronomy and the history of astronomy, and a Ph.D. in information systems. He also holds a Graduate Certificate of Arts in Theology from the Australian Catholic University.
In addition to his diaconal ministry, Deacon John enjoys time with family, watching the grandkids, reading a good book, traveling, and taking in everything that life has to offer. Recommends that readers contemplate Matthew 6: 33-34 as we work with God in our daily lives.
